Svend Christensen holds an M.Sc in Agriculture (1988) and a Ph.D. (1993) from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen. His primary research interests include precision agriculture, weed biology and management, and biosystem technologies. As a researcher, he has coordinated 10 larger research projects prior to becoming Research Director of the Department of Agricultural Engineering under the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 2001. In 2008 he was appointed Professor and Head of Department of the Department of Plant and Environmentsal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.
