Jens Christian Frisvad's research area spans a wide range of mycology - the study of fungi. He primarily researches biodiversity, biosystematics and chemical diversity in molds in order to find new enzymes and secondary metabolites that can be used in new drugs, for example. He is also researching systems biology, where he studies the exo-metabolome and the exo-interactom, which are secreted metabolites from micro-organisms and the chemical communication between species. In addition, he also works on projects where he studies mycotoxins and molds, especially from Penicillium and Aspergillus , in order to prevent toxin formation in food, indoor climate, and biotechnological products.
